The Tabernacle!

The Command to Leave Israel
The LORD said to Moses: You led the people of Israel out of Egypt. Now get ready to lead them to the land I promised their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It is a land rich with milk and honey, and I will send an angel to force out those people who live there--the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. I would go with my people, but they are so rebellious that I would destroy them before they get there. The Lord had told Moses, "These people really are rebellious, and I would kill them at once, if I went with them. But tell them to take off their fancy jewelry, then I'll decide what to do with them." So the people started mourning, and after leaving Mount Sinai, they stopped wearing fancy jewelry.
The Tent of Meeting(Tabernacle)
Moses used to set up a tent far from camp. He called it the "meeting tent," and whoever needed some message from the LORD would go there. Each time Moses went out to the tent, everyone would stand at the entrance to their own tents and watch him enter. Then they would bow down because a thick cloud would come down in front of the tent, and the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, just like a friend. Afterwards, Moses would return to camp, but his young assistant Joshua would stay at the tent.

Lesson to be Learnt :
The Lord keeps His promise to us no matter we are good or bad.  Though the Israel people were rebellious the Lord still promised to send His angel to take care of them on the way. He kept His promise to take them to the land flowing with milk and honey. So today if you are waiting for the Lord for His promise to be fulfilled then believe He is going to get it to you soon. He will send His angel right before you to get things done for you. So only believe.!

Exodus 23:20
(CEV)  I am sending an angel to protect you and to lead you into the land I have ready for you.

The Golden Calf

The Ten Commandments Written:
After the children of Israel left Egypt, they camped in the wilderness by Mount Sinai. And God said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and I will give you tablets of stone, and commandments that I have written, so that you can teach them to your people.”A cloud covered the mountain where God’s glory rested, and Moses went up the mountain, into the middle of the cloud. God spoke to Moses there, and told him what offerings the children of Israel should bring Him, of gold and silver, and fine cloth, and animal skins, and He described the beautiful clothes His priests should wear. And God gave Moses two tablets of stone, written with God’s own finger. Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.

The Golden Calf:
When the people saw that Moses was taking a long time to come down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Make us gods to lead us, because we do not know what has happened to Moses.”Aaron told them to take all of their golden earrings and bring them to him. He made a calf of cast metal, and the people said, “These are our gods, that brought us out of the land of Egypt.” Aaron built an altar before the calf, and the people held a feast. They ate and drank, and made burnt offerings. Then God said to Moses, “Your people have turned away from my commandments: they have made a metal calf and worshipped it. My anger burns against these stubborn people: I will destroy them.” But Moses said to him, “Then the Egyptians would ask, ‘did He lead His people out just to kill them in the mountains?’ Remember Your promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” And God became merciful to His people. When Moses came down from the mountain with the tablets God had given him, he saw the calf, and the people dancing and singing, and in his anger he threw down the tablets and broke them. He took the golden calf and burned it; then he ground it to powder, and mixed it in water, and made the people drink it. Then Moses said, “Whoever is on God’s side, come to me.” And to those who gathered around him, he cursed saying, “The Lord God of Israel, says that you must take your swords, and go through the camp, and kill your brothers, your neighbors, and your friends.”They did as Moses said, and three thousand men were killed that day.

Lesson to be Learnt:
God was angry with His people, but when Moses pleaded to Him He became merciful. The same way even when we have committed a grave mistake in our life. When we repent and plead with the Lord, the Lord will forgive us.
Psalm 30:5
(CEV)  Your anger lasts a little while, but your kindness lasts for a lifetime. At night we may cry, but when morning comes we will celebrate.

Do Not Covet!

Do Not Covet!

Naboth lived during the time of a notoriously wicked Israelite king named Ahab. Naboth’s vineyard, which was next to king Ahab’s palace, was his family property since many years. Ahab looked at the vineyard and liked it very much. So he offered to buy it from Naboth. But Naboth refused to sell as it was his ancestor’s property. Ahab’s wife Jezebel saw that the king was depressed because of this.  Jezebel was a cunning woman and planned to get the vineyard for him. She arranged some people to falsely blame against Naboth. He was accused of cursing God and the king. He was put to death as punishment. The people of the city killed him by throwing stones on him. Jezebel went and told Ahab that the vineyard was his to take possession of. Thus, Ahab took possession of Naboth’s vineyard.
But after some years, God punished Ahab and Jezebel for shedding innocent blood of Naboth.
God says “Do not covet.” The Hebrew word for ‘covet’ means ‘to desire’ or ‘to take pleasure’ on something which is not our own. In this story, Ahab was a king. With his power he could have bought anything anywhere in his country. But his eyes fell on Naboth’s vineyard. When he was denied of his desire, he acted selfish and grabbed the vineyard in an evil way.

To covet is to want something badly which is not ours.
Examples of things that we are tempted to covet for:
Material things like :
                                Dress of your friend,
                                Car that your neighbor owns.
                                House of a fellow worker.

Physical things like:
                                Neighbors wife.
                                Friends’ Happy life.
                                Joy of a friend’s family.

We have quoted very few examples of covetousness. But beware that your simple desire doesn’t get you to sin against God.

Exo 20:17
