Obedience Better than Sacrifice!

Obedience Better than Sacrifice!

Now Saul was King over Israel and He went to battles and won with the grace of God. But soon he started walking away from the commandments of God. Here are some mistakes that he made..
1.       Once Saul had to wait for Samuel to make a sacrifice to the Lord. But since Samuel was late, Saul did it by Himself, which was against the law.
2.      When Saul went to battle against the Amalekites, the Lord had instructed Saul to utterly destroy everything in their land, Saul and people with him took the choicest cattle and took the King of Amalek without killing him. When Samuel asked why he did so, He said it was meant to be a sacrifice to the Lord.
3.      He built a monument for himself.

Now the Lord was sorry for having made Saul the King of Israel because Saul disobeyed God. So he sent a word to Saul through Samuel saying, "You may not think you're very important, but why didn't you listen to the LORD? Why did you keep the animals and make him angry? Does the LORD really want sacrifices and offerings? No! He doesn't want your sacrifices. He wants you to obey him. Rebelling against God or disobeying him because you are proud is just as bad as worshiping idols or asking them for advice. You refused to do what God told you, so God has decided that you can't be king." "I have sinned," Saul admitted. "I disobeyed both you and the LORD. I was afraid of the army, and I listened to them instead. Please forgive me and come back with me so I can worship the LORD." "No!" Samuel replied, "You disobeyed the LORD, and I won't go back with you. Now the LORD has said that you can't be king of Israel any longer."

Lesson to be Learnt:
When the Lord chose Saul to be the King, He hid himself for He was afraid. Only after the spirit of the Lord came upon He was able to lead the Israelites. But in due course Saul forgot that this leadership talent was given by the Lord and only if  he obeys the Lord he will be blessed. This is the case with many people today. When they were nobody, God took them out of dirt and set them on high places, blessed them with job/family/and love. But when everything goes well people forget the One who gave them all these things. God is pleased with people who obey Him even if they are not so bright/talented. He doesn’t want sacrifices that comes out of disobedience. So it is always good to obey the Lord and thank Him for every blessing that He gives us, for without Him we would be nobody!
