As for Me and My House, We will Serve the Lord!

 God has given you a land for which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build, and you live in them. You now eat of the vineyards and olive-yards which you did not plant. Now, then, fear The Lord, and serve Him in sincerity and truth. And put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt, and serve The Lord. And if it seems evil to you to serve The Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served Beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live. But as for me and my house, we will serve The Lord. And the people said to Joshua, We will serve the Lord our God, and His voice we will obey.

Lesson to be Learnt:

            This was the last speech made by Joshua to the people, after they had taken possession of the promised land by God. The Lord had done everything for them. They enjoyed everything from food for the physic till peace of mind given to them by their Savior. He has done mighty things and He will still do mighty things for His children. But there is choice we need to make of the two choices laid before us. It is either to serve the Lord who has done great things for us or to serve other idols. We have to pick up one. The bible says we cannot serve the Lord and others at the same time. But just as Joshua says shall we also say with our whole heart the following verse…

Joshua 24:15

(Hindi) और यदि यहोवा की सेवा करनी तुम्हें बुरी लगे, तो आज चुन लो कि तुम किस की सेवा करोगे, चाहे उन देवताओं की जिनकी सेवा तुम्हारे पुरखा महानद के उस पार करते थे, और चाहे एमोरियोंके देवताओं की सेवा करो जिनके देश में तुम रहते हो? परन्तु मैं तो अपके घराने समेत यहोवा की सेवा नित करूंगा।

(Kan) ಕರ್ತನನ್ನು ಸೇವಿಸುವದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದಾಗಿ ಕಂಡರೆ ಈಹೊತ್ತು ನೀವು ಯಾರನ್ನು ಸೇವಿಸುವಿರಿ? ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆಗಳು ನದಿಯ ಆಚೆ ಸೇವಿ ಸಿದ ದೇವರುಗಳನ್ನೋ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ನೀವು ವಾಸವಾಗಿರುವ ಅಮೋರಿಯರ ದೇವರುಗಳನ್ನೋ? ನೀವು ಆರಿಸಿ ಕೊಳ್ಳಿರಿ; ಆದರೆ ನಾನೂ ನನ್ನ ಮನೆಯವರೂ ಕರ್ತನನ್ನೇ ಸೇವಿಸುವೆವು ಅಂದನು.

(Mal) യഹോവയെ സേവിക്കുന്നതു നന്നല്ലെന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു തോന്നുന്നെങ്കില്‍ നദിക്കക്കരെവെച്ചു നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാര്‍ സേവിച്ച ദേവന്മാരെയോ നിങ്ങള്‍ പാര്‍ത്തുവരുന്ന ദേശത്തിലെ അമോര്‍യ്യരുടെ ദേവന്മാരെയോ ആരെ സേവിക്കും എന്നു ഇന്നു തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തുകൊള്‍വിന്‍ . ഞാനും എന്റെ കുടുംബവുമോ, ഞങ്ങള്‍ യഹോവയെ സേവിക്കും.

(MKJV)  And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served Beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
