A Special Measure Of Your Spirit!

Now when the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a great wind, Elijah went with Elisha(his follower) from Gilgal. And Elijah said to Elisha, Come no farther for the Lord has sent me to Beth-el. But Elisha said, As the Lord is living and as your soul is living, I will not be parted from you. So they went down to Beth-el. And at Beth-el the sons of the prophets came out to Elisha and said, Has it been made clear to you that the Lord is going to take away your master from over you today? And he said, Yes, and refused to depart from him. So they went on together. Then Elijah took off his robe, and, rolling it up, gave the waters of Jordan a blow with it, and the waters were parted, flowing back this way and that, so that they went over on dry land. And when they had come to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, Say what you would have me do for you before I am taken from you. And Elisha said, Be pleased to let a special measure of your spirit be on me. And he said, You have made a hard request: still, if you see me when I am taken from you, you will get your desire; but if not, it will not be so. And while they went on their way, going on talking together, suddenly there were carriages and horses of fire separating them from one another and Elijah went up to heaven in a great wind. And when Elisha saw it he gave a cry, My father, my father, the carriages of Israel and its horsemen! And he saw him no longer; and he was full of grief. Then he took up Elijah's robe, which had been dropped from him, and went back till he came to the edge of Jordan. And he took Elijah's robe, which had been dropped from him, and giving the water a blow with it, said, Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah? and at his blow the waters were parted this way and that; and Elisha went over.

Lesson to be Learnt:

            Now the request/prayer of Elisha is quiet uncommon these days. People pray for blessings in the form of materials or pray that their kids must become Doctors/Engineers/Scientists etc. None of us wants to know what the Lord wants us to do for Him. Why are we following Jesus? Are we following Him just for His blessings ? or are we following Him because He is the true God? Lets check ourselves friends. Lets pray that we would be like Elisha who prayed for the spirit of God to be upon him and know what the Lord wants us to do for His sake.

2Kings 2:9

(Hindi) उनके पार पहुंचने पर एलिय्याह ने एलीशा से कहा, उस से पहिले कि मैं तेरे पास से उठा लिथे जाऊं जो कुछ तू चाहे कि मैं तेरे लिथे करूं वह मांग? एलीशा ने कहा, तुझ में जो आत्मा है, उसका दूना भाग मुझे मिल जाए।

(Kan) ಅವರು ದಾಟಿಹೋದ ತರುವಾಯ ಆದದ್ದೇ ನಂದರೆ, ಎಲೀಯನು ಎಲೀಷನಿಗೆ--ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಯಿಂದ ತಕ್ಕೊಳ್ಳಲ್ಪಡುವದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮುಂಚೆ ನಿನಗೋಸ್ಕರ ನಾನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ಕೇಳು ಅಂದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಎಲೀಷನು ದಯಮಾಡಿ ನಿನಗಿರುವ ಆತ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗೆ ಎರಡು ಪಾಲನ್ನು ಅನುಗ್ರಹಿಸು ಅಂದನು.

(Mal) അവര്‍ അക്കരെ കടന്നശേഷം ഏലീയാവു എലീശയോടുഞാന്‍ നിങ്കല്‍നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളപ്പെടുംമുമ്പെ ഞാന്‍ നിനക്കു എന്തു ചെയ്തു തരേണം? ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്‍ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു എലീശാനിന്റെ ആത്മാവില്‍ ഇരട്ടി പങ്കു എന്റെമേല്‍ വരുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

(MKJV)  And it happened when they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha. Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken away from you. And Elisha said, please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.

(Tamil OV)  அவர்கள் அக்கரைப்பட்டபின்பு, எலியா எலிசாவை நோக்கி: நான் உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படுமுன்னே நான் உனக்குச் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன, கேள் என்றான். அதற்கு எலிசா: உம்மிடத்திலுள்ள ஆவியின் வரம் எனக்கு இரட்டிப்பாய்க் கிடைக்கும்படி வேண்டுகிறேன் என்றான்.

(Telugu)  వారు దాటిపోయిన తరువాత ఏలీయా ఎలీషాను చూచినేను నీయొద్దనుండి తీయబడకమునుపు నీకొరకు నేనేమి చేయకోరుదువో దాని నడుగుమని చెప్పగా ఎలీషానీకు కలిగిన ఆత్మలో రెండుపాళ్లు నా మీదికి వచ్చు నట్లు దయచేయుమనెను.
